Holmes High School | Business Careers High School | Excel Academy

Campus Life at Holmes ministers to a diverse group of students. Though Business Careers High School and Excel Academy are independent of Holmes High School, each with their own faculty and administration, all three schools share the same campus. The days and times listed below are merely the existing Relational Ministry Actions (RMAs) which are continuing from last year. Simply put, RMAs are just what we do with students: how we spend time with them in big clubs, small groups, and even 1-on-1. Our Campus Life site team at Holmes is composed of 3 different categories of service, each with 4 different types of roles. Any person may choose to serve in multiple roles, in one or multiple categories. For the sake of proficiency, we encourage you to focus on a role that best utilizes your strengths.

Your Ministry, Your Role

Those who serve in Campus Life at Holmes are a part of a missional community. No one is "helping out", and no one person nor function is more significant than any other. We're all essential parts of the same body, the same community, and the same mission. If any person would feel led to serve here, then understand that you come to fulfill your ministry and your role: you belong here, and this work belongs to you. Using the ministry roles outlined below, you can discover how you might be able to serve the Holmes community. In each role listed, the insistence is that you would commit to at least one school year: which would be from the beginning of the fall semester to the end of summer break. Any person joining the team mid school year would be expected to continue to the end of that year's summer break. We hope that you can find your place with us.

Mentor Roles

Mentors are the part of our team which are most directly and consistently involved with students. Mentors desire to build genuine relationships with students, entering their environment to discover who they are. It is through those relationships, and through mentors sharing their own lives with students, that mentors earn the right and create the opportunity to share Christ with these lost kids. Mentors are required to participate in at least 2 RMAs weekly. As we reach more students, we will develop new small groups, Core groups, and building times to coincide with the availability of the mentors. Mentors may spend 4 to 6 hours a week fulfilling their role.

Core Mentors should have adequate knowledge & understand of the Bible to independently lead students in conversations about their faith. Must be 21 or older, must participate in Core & conduct Appointments with Core mentees.

Small Group Mentors must be 21 or older, and licensed divers (of their own vehicle). Must be willing to transport students. Must participate in a Small Group and conduct Building Times. Small Group mentors should seek out opportunities to invite students to participate in YFC Mentoring relationships with a minimum of three months, though ideally lasting at least a full school season (Fall, Spring, or Summer).

Club Mentors should be comfortable engaging students in a high-energy atmosphere, using provided curriculum to l lead small group conversations, and approaching new students in diverse environments. Must be at least 1 year out of high school. Must participate in Club and Contacting (though not necessarily the contacting times listed above).

Unified Underground Mentors should be prepared to foster creative ability in students, and to lead those students in how to use that ability to glorify God. Because Unified Underground (UU) intends to connect with students within a subculture community, it is imperative that mentors are able to themselves identify with (and already be involved in) that subculture. Considering all of that, UU mentors must have an operable ability to teach and have an adept ability in at least one of the following areas: dance, music (traditional instruments and/or electronic), singing, creative writing (prose and/or poetry), cinematography, theatre arts (performing & thatre tech), photography, digital graphic arts, drawing/painting, or graffiti art. The current UU ministry for our site is directed to urban hip-hop culture.

Producer Roles

A producer’s role does not necessarily require them to attend any RMAs nor special events. However, there are some features of particular roles which might depend on creative & game producers to be present for some RMAs and events. Producers may work independently, with an adult team, or with a team of students depending upon your interest & the availability of team members. Producers may spend 2 to 4 hours a week fulfilling their role.

Creative Producers should be adept in at least one of the following areas— cinematography, videography, photography, creative writing, graphic design, macOS & A/V technology, or have some ability as a digital DJ. Must be able to attend Club weekly, and be willing to complete ministry supporting tasks independently.

Game Producers would be responsible for developing and leading games for Club. Must be willing to work independently or with a team of game producers to prepare their weekly portion of the Club experience in advance. New games produced should be documented in a provided format, and archived.

Infrastructure Producers must drive their own vehicle (and 21 or older if transporting students). Infrastructure producers provide general support/service, wherever is needed (primarily for/during Club). For Clubs and other events, those services might include transporting students, securing entrances/exits, operating check-in stations, food or equipment pickup, food/material distribution, room or equipment setup/breakdown, and cleaning.

Administrative Producers focus on managing resources and data. Administrative producers would work closely with other members of our site team to keep record of adult & student data, using provided tools to produce feedback which allows our team to measure our micro (individuals) and macro (ministry site) level growth. They should also be comfortable with frequently taking initiative and doing a large portion of their work independently.

Advocate Roles

Advocates would function as a part of our Community Support Team, who don’t need to be directly involved with students, events, nor RMAs. An advocate’s primary function is to engage our surrounding community for the purpose of raising awareness and support of our ministry. Advocates may spend 2 to 4 hours a week fulfilling their role.

Campus Advocates will naturally spend most of their time on campus, though not with students. Their purpose is to familiarize campus staff / faculty / administration with what Campus Life is, how we can serve their interests, and how they might be able to get involved or provide a benefit to us as well. Campus advocates may sometimes be paired with various mentors to help their interactions with campus staff occur more naturally.

Community Advocates connect with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders in the area to raise awareness of our ministry and cultivate opportunities to partner and collaborate. Examples might include developing partnerships like that we have with Chick-fil-A & El Chapparal, who cater some of our events at low or no cost; or like that we have with ThinAir who offer us overnight event reservations at a reduced cost. Community advocates may sometimes be paired with Missional Advocates and Financial Advocates, depending upon the nature of the relationships they develop with other organizations.

Missional Advocates whole intent is the recruitment of new SAYFC team members, irrespective of whatever site team or role they might desire to be in. Whether it be their own friends and family or complete strangers, missional advocates pursue individuals who want to commit their personal time to spreading the Gospel through the mission of Youth for Christ. Missional advocates might spend much of their time recruiting from college campuses in the city, local churches, and other Christian organizations which produce highly capable leaders. Missional advocates may sometimes be paired with mentors or community advocates to aid recruitment.

Financial Advocates focus on macro and micro fundraising. The scope of that fundraising will range from pursuing business and organizations to commit to event sponsorships, pursuing organizations to commit to recurring donations, and pursuing individuals to give monthly as well. Financial advocates may frequently work with administrative producers, mentors, and community advocates to aid with fundraising.
